Alleged WhatsApp messages from former Police Minister Bheki Cele have surfaced, in which he reportedly threatens to “sing” if he is arrested.
The messages emerged after reports that a warrant of arrest may be issued against Cele following disclosures made at the Madlanga Commission. During proceedings before the commission, Cele reportedly acknowledged staying at an upmarket residence owned by controversial businessman Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
The revelations have intensified scrutiny over Cele’s conduct and political future. The phrase “arrest me and I will sing” is widely interpreted as a threat to expose information about others if legal action proceeds against him.
In response, the African National Congress National Executive Committee has announced that Cele should step down from his role within the party’s NEC. The ANC has also referred him to the ANC Disciplinary Committee for further processes.
Neither Cele nor his representatives have publicly verified the authenticity of the alleged WhatsApp texts at the time of publication. The Madlanga Commission continues its work, and law enforcement has not confirmed whether an arrest warrant has been issued.
