Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia has expressed concern over reports that KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi could face arrest by the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
Speaking during a media briefing, Cachalia criticised the handling of information relating to planned arrests of senior police officials, saying neither he nor the Justice Minister had been informed in advance.
However, the NPA’s IDAC has stated that arrest warrants were issued only for Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and Major-General Nosipho Madondo, and has denied that a warrant was issued for Mkhwanazi.
The matter remains the subject of public debate as tensions continue over the handling of investigations involving senior SAPS officials.
