Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, is facing possible deportation from South Africa after the Department of Home Affairs allegedly found that she and her minor son were living in the country illegally.
According to court documents, Adetshina was located by immigration authorities earlier this month in Summer Greens, Cape Town. She was arrested and appeared in court on 9 June 2026.
Although she was released on a warning following her court appearance, the matter remains before the courts. The Department of Home Affairs has since filed an application seeking her detention and subsequent deportation from South Africa.
An immigration officer told the court that Adetshina was already known to authorities as a result of a previous investigation linked to her immigration status.
The case follows the high-profile controversy that surrounded Adetshina in 2024, when she withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition amid questions over her citizenship. She later went on to represent Nigeria and was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria.
Adetshina is expected to return to court next month as legal proceedings over her immigration status and possible deportation continue.
The Department of Home Affairs has not yet announced when the court is expected to make a final ruling on the matter.
