President Cyril Ramaphosa has filed papers in the Western Cape High Court seeking a review of the Section 89 independent panel report into the Phala Phala matter.
According to the court papers, Ramaphosa is pursuing a review of the panel’s findings but is not seeking an interim interdict to halt the pending impeachment process in Parliament. The application focuses on challenging the legality and rationality of the panel’s report.
The Section 89 panel, appointed in 2022, found that there was prima facie evidence that the President may have committed serious misconduct over the 2020 burglary at his Phala Phala farm. Parliament later voted against proceeding with impeachment proceedings based on the report.
Ramaphosa has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the matter. The court is yet to set a date for the hearing.
