Controversial Amabhinca President and podcaster Ngizwe Mchunu has been found guilty of hate speech, harassment and unfair discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people by the Equality Court in Johannesburg.
The case arose from videos and a flyer allegedly posted on Mchunu’s Facebook page between September and October 2025. According to the court, the content contained derogatory remarks directed at gay, lesbian and transgender people.
In a ruling delivered by Judge Gregory Wright, the court granted a final interdict preventing Mchunu from publishing discriminatory content on social media or participating in demonstrations targeting members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
The court further ordered Mchunu to issue an unconditional public apology within five days of the judgment.
In addition, he was directed to complete 20 hours of human rights sensitisation training and pay R250,000 to either Transhope or the Hate Crime Working Group.
Mchunu was also ordered to pay legal costs associated with the matter.
The judgment has been welcomed by LGBTQIA+ advocacy groups, who say it reinforces constitutional protections against discrimination and hate speech.
At the time of publication, Mchunu had not publicly indicated whether he intends to appeal the ruling.
The case is regarded as one of the most significant Equality Court rulings involving online speech and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ persons in recent years.
